Investing in Ministry
Two rounds per year. Applications close 30 April and 31 October.
These scholarships will provide a living allowance (currently $47,000/year tax free) for ordained ministers undertaking masters or postgraduate level research.
One scholarship available for every application round.
The intention is to invest in a greater diversity of ministry educators and doctors in the church. Currently, the majority of educators in the Church are Pākehā men. However, this does not reflect the wider church membership. Encouraging a greater diversity of people in ministry is enhanced by having a diverse teaching staff.
Scholarship recipients can receive the living allowance for the duration of their postgraduate course on the condition that:
- They are of Māori or Pasifika descent and/or is a woman
- They are an ordained minister in the PCANZ or have the equivalent of five years vocational ministry experience
- They are currently a member in a Presbyterian (or Cooperative Venture) church
- They are studying a full-time postgraduate course in theology or ministry
- Their academic supervisor provides periodic reports on their progress
- They are not receiving other scholarships contributing to their living costs
Who can apply
The following people can apply for this scholarship:
- PCANZ ministers (or PCANZ members with the equivalent of five years vocational ministry experience) who are tangata whenua
- PCANZ ministers (or PCANZ members with the equivalent of five years vocational ministry experience) who are tangata moana
- PCANZ ministers (or PCANZ members with the equivalent of five years vocational ministry experience) who are women
How to apply for a scholarship
To apply for the “Diverse Ministry Educator” Scholarship, please submit:
- the “Diverse Ministry Educator” Scholarship application form
- a short letter explaining which course you would like to do and why you would like to do it
- a CV outlining your ministry experience
Proof that you have been accepted for the course and your start date will need to be provided before receiving the first scholarship payment.
