Foundation Study Scholarships

Two rounds per year. Applications close 30 April and 31 October.

These scholarships provide a living allowance for students who have been accepted for the National Ordained Ministry Internship programme, but need to complete their prerequisite theological studies first. The scholarships will be equal to an intern’s bursary (currently $47,000/year tax free).

Scholarship recipients can receive the living allowance for up to three years on the condition that:

1. They have successfully gone through National Assessment
2. They are studying full-time theology in preparation for their internship
3. They are passing their papers (and submitting proof to PDS each semester)
4. Their course meets all the requirements for beginning the internship programme
5. Their academic provider is approved by the PCANZ (i.e. Otago Theology Programme, Carey Baptist College, Laidlaw College, Pacific Theological College)
6. They are not receiving other scholarships contributing to their living costs

Scholarship payments will be made monthly.

The granting of the scholarship will be renewed every six months until the foundation studies are completed (up to a maximum of three years). Renewal will be dependent on the recipient providing proof that they have passed the previous semester’s papers. If papers have not been passed, scholarships may be continued at the discretion of PDS and in conversation with the Knox Centre for Ministry and Leadership.

People who have been accepted for the National Ordained Ministry programme but who have not yet met the prerequisite theological study requirements.
