Support for Knox Centre for Ministry and Leadership Te Whare Maire Interns
PDS provides co-funding support for the Ministry Interns undertaking KCML’s National Ordained Ministry Programme.
This co-funding contributes to helping fund the bursary paid to interns. This bursary is for living expenses as interns train. The Knox Centre for Ministry and Leadership Te Whare Maire(KMCL) educates and provides training for ministers and leaders for service in the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand and partner churches. This includes training people for National Ordained Ministry, Local Ordained Ministries, and Local Ministry Teams. National Ordained Ministers are people whose call to leadership in the national church is recognised by the Church and who are trained and ordained for the ministry of word and sacrament as teaching elders in the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand.

The internship experience was deeply formative for me, not just in terms of education and training, but also in shaping who I am as a minister. Over the two years, I was challenged and stretched in ways that clarified and confirmed my sense of God’s call on my life. Now, I serve in two ministry contexts in Christchurch.
Half of my time is spent as a minister with The Village Presbyterian Church, where I lead a new initiative exploring fresh ways to connect with the local community through relational presence and creative spaces. The other half is with the Prestons New Mission Seedling, where I guide a small community in discovering what it means to be church in our neighbourhood, focusing on local relationships and shared mission. Both roles reflect the heart of the formation I received during my internship.

My internship with KCML is a time I remember with great fondness. It was a tremendous privilege to receive the quality of input that we did over that two year period, and even more so from the calibre of the staff we were taught and mentored by – these relationships and the interactions we had over the course of the internship were as valuable as anything we were formally taught in the class times.
My placement at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Napier was clearly God-led and this relationship too was hugely formative and invaluable in shaping the minister I’ve become and am becoming still… My husband and I are both very grateful to have been the recipients of such investment by the PCANZ and can’t imagine doing what we’re doing without such excellent preparation.
Since our ordinations(s), my husband and I share one full-time role made up of two parts – one is as half-time minister at Nawton Community Church in Hamilton, and the other is half-time exploring new initiatives (church-planting) in Northwest Hamilton.
